Pairing Cheese with Apples

It’s that time of year where mornings are cooler and dusk comes upon us just a tad bit earlier. Summer is ending and fall is in the air. Trees are soaking up the last summer rays and apples have weighed down their branches. Your mouth waters just thinking of biting into a sweet, juicy apple.

Tart, crisp apples are like very dry white wine, while a sweet, juicy apple such as Jonagold, is more like a fruity white, and spicy apples is similar to a spicy, sweet Zinfandel.

• Aged Cheddar with Galas
• Gruyere or Pleasant Ridge Reserve with Braeburn

Stay clear of really pungent cheeses such as aged brick or Limburger. They are just too strong and will overpower the apple.

If you want to add a French flair, try Comte which has notes of apricots and caramel that complements perfectly with the sweetness of the apple.
